1 Support The Desire HD joins the HTC unibody lineup that began with the Legend. The Desire HD is crafted into a sleek unibody chassis that feels and looks like it was CNC'd from a single aluminium block.
The front is dominated by a 4.3-inch SLCD capacitive touchscreen.
On the bottom are the usual HTC keysets, home, menu, back and search, squeezed into the narrow space. At the top are the shiny chrome earpiece grill, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor, and an LED to show battery and other status alerts.
The left-hand spine houses the volume rocker. The impressive capacitive touchscreen uses Sony's S-LCD technology, and renders up to 16 million colours at a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.
Despite the large chassis, the Desire HD feels strangely comfortable in the the hands, mostly because of the thin lines and the fact that it measures a mere 11.8 mm thick.
A microUSB charge/sync port at the bottom, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a power/sleep button on the top round out the controls.
The Camera can record HD videos at 720p resolution, there's also a dual LED flash. It is positioned in the centre of the rear casing, dual LED photolights sit just to the side.
The camera lens glass is recessed to prevent it from scratching from day-to-day knocking around. There's also a small speaker that is the main source of audio output, there's another on the front above the screen, but it feels like most of the sound pumps from the rear.
Though the clockspeed remains the same as the original Desire, HTC has equipped the Desire HD with a much powerful GPU, the Adreno 205. The Desire HD is also the first HTC phone to sport the DLNA media sharing feature.
HTC has crammed a mean set of hardware within the Desire HD chassis, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, check, 768MB RAM,check, a whopping 1.5GB of phone memory.
This translates to some some impressive benchmarks, clocking 57.7 frames-per-second in Neocore(thats 3-times higher than the original Desire).
The Desire HD is extremely swift with loading apps even 3D games that can be downloaded. A fast processor, massive display and all possible connectivity options is often the perfect recipe for poor battery life.
Not So with the Desire! However, the new "Power Saver" feature, which lets you configure a list of features to be turned off once the battery level drops to a preset level. The HD is preloaded with the Friendstream app, and if you don't like it you have a dozen alternaives to choose from on the Android Market that have achieved the HTC tick of approval.
The HTC Desire HD uses the latest version of the HTC Sense UI, which comes with enhanced WLAN integration with built-in support for DLNA sharing, it also offers some aethetic enhancements for the UI, Photo Albums & Footprints. Another useful inclusion is the magnifier in text input fields(adopted from the iPhone), it makes a big difference when you are trying to place the cursor at a specific location.
The My Footprint is a fun feature which utilizes the phones GPS receiver, to locate your footprint, and lets you view Attractions, Restaurants & Shopping info. The Webkit browser offers multitouch support and comes with couple of nifty features, zoom out all the way and the page changes into a window view, letting you jump to a different page without having to hit the menu button, the Text reflow is also extremely fast, even for flash heavy pages.
The HD is one beast of a smartphone, it might be little too much for the average user, but if you are someone who is willing to trade raw power for portability then the HTC HD is the One for you. Specifications of HTC Desire HD GENERAL General Form: Candybar SIZE Dimensions: 123 x 68 x 11.
