*As of February 7, 2012, among interchangeable lens digital SLR cameras employing an image sensor of 35mm film size. Standard ISO 100 to ISO 6400, range expandable to ISO 50 to 25600 equivalent High-resolution, studio-quality images shouldn't be restricted to the studio.
The D800/D800E set a new benchmark for high-resolution D-SLR cameras, with crisp clean images across a wide ISO range. Flexibility like this opens up new imaging opportunities for both still photographers and cinematographers alike during the "magic hour", the time just before dawn or at dusk when available light is often beautiful but scarce.
Even at high ISO settings, the camera's intelligent noise reduction systems manage noise without sacrificing fine details, giving the D800/D800E the edge. The difference can even be seen in low-contrast subjects such as hair and grass textures, which are often essential elements of cinema as well as high-resolution portraits and landscape images.
High image quality at higher ISOs also means that you can shoot still images handheld more confidently, knowing that fast shutter speeds will reduce blur. A strategic approach to turn light to your advantage Combining both high-resolution performance and a wide ISO sensitivity range has finally become a reality.
Nikon engineers have developed intelligent new methods to manipulate light transmission to the sensor's photodiodes: from the optical low-pass filter and on-chip gapless micro lenses to the image sensor's internal design, every measure has been taken to maximize and improve light transmission in order to deliver crisp, brilliant images with significantly less noise. All this is possible under a wide variety of lighting conditions, enabling you to get the most out of your NIKKOR lenses.
Optical low-pass filter optimized for sharpness on the D800 Reducing false color and moir is the main job of the optical low-pass filter located in front of the image sensor. However, this benefit is generally gained with a small sacrifice of sharpness.
Moir occurs in scenes containing repetitive details, such as strong vertical lines in architecture. Finding the right balance between benefits and sacrifices is the key to higher image quality, and that is what the D800's optical low-pass filter delivers.
As a result, the astounding 36.3 megapixels unleash their potential through an optimized balance between sharpness and effectively prevented moir and false color.
Furthermore, the multi-layer structure of the D800 low-pass filter utilizes layers of antireflective coating that have been optimized for the camera, contributing to sharper and clearer images. The ultimate attention to detail — the D800E Nikon engineers have developed a unique alternative for those seeking the ultimate in definition.
The D800E incorporates an optical filter with all the anti-aliasing properties removed in order to facilitate the sharpest images possible. This is an ideal tool for photographers who can control light, distance and their subjects to the degree where they can mitigate the occurrence of moir.
Aside from the optical filter, all functions and features are the same as on the D800. Note: The D800E carries an increased possibility that moir and false color will appear, compared to the D800.
IR cut and antireflective coating properties of the optical filter remain the same with both versions. Comparison of resolution: D800/D800E have the same resolution of 36.
3 megapixels The D800E reproduces the texture of the stone pavement and twigs with higher resolution than the D800. It allows sharper rendering with depth.
Comparison of false color and moir With the D800E, moir and false color may be noticeable when there are repetitive and fine patterns on a subject such as kimono fabric. To avoid this, it is necessary to take measures, for example, changing the focusing point or shooting distance.
Nikon Integrated Dust Reduction System that includes an Image Sensor Cleaning function Any dust that reaches the image sensor results in unattractive spots on your images. To prevent this, the D800/D800E employ Nikon's Integrated Dust Reduction System, which includes a self-cleaning sensor unit with four different resonance frequencies to vibrate the optical low-pass filter and shake dust away from the sensor.
This function can be set to operate automatically when the camera is turned on or off, or to manual. EXPEED 3 image-processing engine: speed, versatility, and high performance High-megapixel still images are detail-rich but data-heavy.
With the D800/D800E, however, you don't have to sacrifice speed for this privilege. Dedicated to understanding speed and its role in image making, Nikon engineers designed a powerful EXPEED 3 image-processing engine exclusively for digital SLRs.
From image processing and card recording to image playback and image transfer, EXPEED 3 manages massive amounts of data at faster speeds than EXPEED 2. Even with specialized processing features like Active D-Lighting and high ISO noise reduction, capture speed is not affected.
EXPEED 3 is so powerful that it handles data-intensive tasks such as Full HD video recording at 30p with ease. You'll also notice the difference in your still images and videos through minimized noise and even richer colors and tones.
In addition to these fundamental advantages, the D800/D800E reduce the kind of color phase shift that some cameras have difficulty with in similar situations. 14-bit A/D conversion and 16-bit image processing for rich tones and natural colors Tonal gradation is where an image transforms from simply representing life to taking on a life of its own.
The D800/D800E do exactly that, with cutting-edge image processing that injects vital energy into your images. Black is rendered as pitch black, and shadow details are subtle and rich.
Even under harsh, high-contrast light, where some cameras can fail, the D800/D800E's gradation remains smooth with abundant detail and tone all the way up the scale to pure white. Lateral chromatic aberration reduction: Take full advantage of your NIKKOR lens collection High-megapixel sensors can really test the quality of your lenses, but you can be confident that the combination of brilliant NIKKOR lenses and Nikon's intelligent processing measures will significantly reduce lateral chromatic aberration to give you incredibly natural-looking results.
Unlike other correction methods that simply eliminate chromatic aberration, Nikon's method compensates for these color differences in a resolving index for each color, making it particularly effective in producing images with stunning edge-to-edge sharpness. Moreover, because these corrections are made regardless of the NIKKOR lens used, this feature contributes substantially to achieving the sharpest images possible.
Advanced Scene Recognition System with 91K-pixel RGB sensor Nikon's revolutionary Advanced Scene Recognition System, introduced with the flagship D4 camera, is also employed in the D800/D800E. At its core is a 91K-pixel RGB sensor that meticulously analyzes each scene with the fine resolution.
The RGB sensor can recognize your scene's colors and brightness with unprecedented precision, then use that information to implement various automatic controls and give you more natural-looking results. The real breakthrough, however, is that the sensor can detect human faces with startling accuracy when shooting through the optical viewfinder.
Along with face detection, detailed scene analysis is utilized to support more accurate autofocus, auto exposure and i-TTL flash exposure results in a diverse range of compositional and lighting situations. The improved subject tracking is most noticeable when using 3D-tracking, which can maintain a focus on moving subjects smaller in size than with previous generations.
More accurate face detection in auto-area AF and subject tracking in 3D-tracking Auto-area AF and 3D-tracking are AF-area modes unique to Nikon that use your subject's color and brightness information to detect focus. With the D800/D800E and their more precise information and subject recognition advancements, expect big steps forward for both AF-area modes when taking high-quality still images.
In auto-area AF, the camera can genuinely detect human faces and focuses on them immediately — useful when faces are a priority and there's no time to choose focus points. When using 3D-tracking, the sensor's fine resolution combines with a specifically optimized AF algorithm to realize unprecedented subject tracking precision, recognizing detailed patterns to keep your subject in sharp focus.
3D color matrix metering III for more accurate exposures Professional photographers who shoot still images know that Nikon's metering system delivers supremely well-balanced exposures. Thanks to the 91K-pixel RGB sensor, the D800/D800E have far more detailed scene information at its disposal — including detected face information.
This data helps the 3D color matrix metering III deliver more desirable auto exposures, especially when there are human faces present. When the D800/D800E detect a human face in a backlit situation, the camera determines the overall exposure while prioritizing the facial exposure, which might otherwise be underexposed.
When a face is lit from the front and appears much brighter than the background, the camera recognizes the situation and avoids blowing out the facial details. More balanced results in i-TTL balanced fill-flash and Active D-Lighting Nikon's i-TTL system has long been considered the most accurate flash control system in photography, but now face detection and highlight analysis by the 91K-pixel RGB sensor pushes performance even further.
With the D800/D800E's enhanced i-TTL balanced fill-flash, you can more precisely illuminate people's faces in relation to their surrounding brightness using either the built-in flash or an external hot-shoed Nikon Speedlight. For weddings and fashion shoots, or any photography that relies on the highest-quality still images, this new standard redefines what a flash system should be.
Face detection also makes a difference when Active D-Lighting is used to retain highlights and shadows in high-contrast lighting situations. Faces will be optimally exposed both in the sun and in the shade.
Light source identification for auto white balance in still images The D800/D800E's auto white balance is incredibly accurate in a diverse range of shooting situations, aided by unique Nikon technology that effectively identifies your light sources, both natural and artificial. With the 91K-pixel RGB sensor and the image sensor working together, the camera renders white as white with supreme accuracy.
Or if you prefer, the auto white balance can be set to reflect the warmth of ambient, incandescent lighting. Contribution to D-Movie shooting The D800/D800E's Advanced Scene Recognition System enhances not only still image shooting but also various controls used in movie shooting.
It identifies light sources and human faces finely, utilizing the high resolution of the image sensor to deliver accurate auto white balance and exposure control during movie shooting, and improves the precision of subject-tracking AF. Furthermore, it automatically detects flicker effects, and controls the exposure to reduce them.
Direct access to Picture Control that enables quick setting Customize the look of your stills and videos through Picture Controls by fine-tuning parameters such as sharpening, saturation, and hue. The D800/D800E now allow you to access Picture Control instantly and directly from a dedicated button rather than entering the menu.

For cinematographers ready to put their exceptionally sharp NIKKOR lenses into action, the D800/D800E's 36.3 effective megapixel data is efficiently processed for exquiste 1080p broadcast quality video at 30p.

(less)Olympus E-PL1 with 14-42mm Lens
Easy-to-understand descriptions of photographic techniques such as shooting angle, framing and specific points about each subject are displayed on the LCD monitor. After selecting the subject you want to shoot, just take photos according to the tips.
Now you can express yourself anytime, anywhere. iAUTO including "i-ENHANCE" to express the mood of the moment The "iAUTO" function includes the "i-ENHANCE", which is especially designed to express the mood of the moment.
Just select "iAUTO". The camera automatically analyzes the target subject, optimally adjusting colour saturation and contrast to create a powerful, emotive image that evokes that "being-there" feeling.
Small and light body with SLR-Quality Light, compact, go-anywhere portability, with built-in flash and image stabilization Micro Four Thirds System design eliminates the need to incorporate a mirror box inside the camera, making it possible to reduce the flange back distance (the distance from the lens mount to the focal plane) by about half while still enabling the use of a full-size Four Thirds System image sensor. Even though the camera has a built-in image stabilization system and GN10 flash (ISO200), it is significantly more compact than conventional SLR cameras.
Expressive Power Art Filter for a new creative perspective Express yourself with Olympus's unique Art Filter. Professional-like techniques that are available only when using special lenses or image processing on a PC can now be obtained with the camera only, putting simple, one-touch creative power at your fingertips.
The E-PL1 comes with six different Art Filter effects that expand the range of creative possibilities. Add one of these effects to your image and preview the results on the LCD monitor.
RAW data development with Art Filter is also possible. Gentle Sepia Gives images the look of a vintage sepia-tone print, with gentle contrast and well-defined shadows.
Pop art Enhances colours, making them stronger and more vivid, creating high-impact pictures that express the feeling of the pop art style. Soft focus Creates an ethereal, otherworldly atmosphere.
The result is a fantastic style, which renders the subject as if it is veiled in heavenly light. Pin hole Reduces the peripheral brightness to create a secretive perspective or the feeling of being lost in another dimension or space.
Diorama Emphasizes colour and contrast to create a model-like image, with a rapid change in the focus from sharp to soft. Grainy film Recreates the strong presence of a monochrome picture, making the subject impressive in a style that emphasizes the theme.
Multi-Aspect ratios to suit different creative requirements Four aspect ratios are available: standard 4:3; 16:9 for impressive, cinematic-style images; 6:6 - used by medium-format cameras; and 3:2, which is equivalent to the 35mm film size. You can select the ratio that best suits your creative requirements.
Multiple Exposure lets you shoot while previewing the final result With Live View, multi-exposure shooting is much easier because you can shoot the next frame while superimposing your last shot as a semi-transparent image, allowing you to see what your final result will look like. High definition movie recording SLR-quality high definition movie with AF You can record HD-quality movies in either the widescreen 16:9 (1280 x 720, 30 fps) aspect ratio or the standard 4:3 (640 x 480, 30 fps) ratio.
Movies are recorded in the AVI Motion JPEG format, assuring trouble-free playback on a PC. Because the image sensor is much larger than those used in HD video cameras, the PEN delivers even higher image quality.
By controlling the aperture or using a different type lens, you can produce a variety of effects unique to interchangeable-lens photography, such as defocused images or arresting perspectives. The built-in electronic image stabilization mechanism works regardless of the lens used.
Dedicated Movie mode button for seamless access to movie shooting at any time The E-PL1 is equipped with a dedicated Movie mode button to enable instant activation of 720p HD movie recording at any time. Even if the mode dial isn't set to Movie mode, a quick press of this button allows users to switch seamlessly back and forth between still image and movie shooting.
Art Filter Movie Recording The Art Filter can be applied to moving images so you can create stylish movies*. In addition, the movie + still image shooting function lets you save still images continuously as movie frames, allowing you to record a movie while waiting for the right shutter chance.
Linear PCM sound recording Audio is recorded in linear PCM format - an uncompressed digital format noted for its super sound quality. Drawing on Olympus expertise in digital IC recorder technology, it assures outstanding fidelity and dynamic audio presence.
After-the-fact audio and sound memos can also be easily added to previously taken photos. Versatile functions Built-in image stabilization The compact image stabilization mechanism is integrated in the camera to compensate for camera shake.
Since the stabilizing mechanism is built into the camera body, it can function with any lens without compromising its optical performance. Two modes - I.
S.2 (horizontal) and I.
S.3 (vertical) make possible blur-free panning shots in either the horizontal or vertical direction.
The image stabilization mechanism works also when the mount adapter (optional) is used. Dust Reduction System A Super-Sonic Wave Filter (SSWF) redesigned to fit in a smaller unit is installed in front of the image sensor, where it vibrates at an ultra-high speed of more than 30,000 times a second, blasting dust away from the sensor.
The tremendous power of the supersonic waves can even remove dust that cannot be removed merely by shaking the image sensor or dust that is attached by intermolecular force and cannot be removed by discharging static electricity. 12.
3-megapixel High-Speed Live MOS Sensor The image sensor uses a High-Speed Live MOS Sensor featuring 12.3 megapixels and a high-speed readout.
In combination with the high optical performance provided by Micro Four Thirds lenses, this sensor captures high-resolution images that accurately reproduce your composition with exquisite detail, rich gradations and natural colours. The TruePic V image processing engine The TruePic V image-processing engine is a refined version of the high-performance TruePic III+ engine, delivering clearer, higher-resolution images by exploiting the full performance of the lens.
Sophisticated noise reduction that removes noise without obliterating details allows high-sensitivity shooting at ISO 3200 and beautifully reproduces delicate colour changes. e-Portrait to enhance skin texture for a large-screen HD display The "e-Portrait" scene mode smoothes out skin tones and texture.
When e-Portrait is set before shooting, the camera saves the same image before and after compensation*1. The compensation effect can also be added in the edit mode after shooting.
The result is stunning, pro-style portrait photos that perfectly capture the inner and outer beauty of the people you love the most. Supports high-quality VF-2 Electronic Viewfinder and SEMA-1 Stereo Microphone Set The E-PL1 is equipped with an accessory port to enable use of the externally mounted VF-2 Electronic Viewfinder, which offers high-contrast, 1,440,000-dot resolution and a 100% field of view.
The VF-2's live view functionality enables users to confirm the effect of camera settings before the shutter is released, so they can capture the scene precisely as they see it in the viewfinder. Dioptric correction is also provided to ensure a clear view for users who wear eyeglasses.
AF Tracking for focusing on moving subject Once the target subject is focused and locked, AF Tracking automatically follows it even while the subject is still moving. So, all you have to do is press the shutter button at the moment you want to shoot.
MF Assist function for easy manual focusing For easier and more accurate focusing, just turn the focus ring during S-AF + MF or MF operation to magnify the part of the image that you want to focus on by 7X or 10X or 14X*. And with the E-PL1, more comfortable focusing is made possible by using the externally attached electronic viewfinder.
The magnified display also allows you to set the focusing point to an even wider area. One-touch enlarge button for easy detail confirmation A convenient Enlarge button makes it easy to check subject details when focusing an OM series or other lens manually.
When using a lens without MF Assist, a single press of the Enlarge button shows the enlarged view, and a third press returns to a 100% full-frame field of view. Slideshow with mixed movies/still images/sound You can create a slideshow that mixes still images, movies, and sound.
The camera incorporates five kinds of background music as well as slideshow control functions including still image fade-in/out, sound recording volume, and background music volume adjustment. HDMI output for viewing pictures and movies on a TV screen You can connect the camera to an HDMI-equipped TV set via a commercially available HDMI mini-cable and view high-quality HD movies and images together with stereo audio.
With the E-PL1, you can also control playback with your TV's remote control*. Image browsing and organization software [ib] Image management software [ib] is provided, allowing easy uploading of pictures in the camera just by connecting to a PC.
Uploaded pictures can be classified by event, and organized according to location or subject. You can easily find pictures of somebody taken during a specified event like a trip.
Viewing, printing or even RAW development is also possible. Colour Universal Design The E-PL1 have been certified by the Colour Universal Design Organization (CUDO) as a colour universal design whose colours and patterns can be easily distinguished regardless of any differences in individual colour vision.

PEN QUALITY Ultrafast AF based on the latest technology The perfect shot disappears as fast as it appears, sometimes vanishing even before you have a chance to see it or appreciate it. If only you could capture the moments moving through your mind, preserving them in images that you can look back on again and again.
Will of shooting comes in an instant and vanishes in an instant. The PEN's ultrafast AF will make the ideal real.
The E-PL3 incorporates the same advanced technologies used to implement ultrafast AF speed in the E-P3, including the Fast AF System, new 12.3-megapixel High Speed Live MOS Sensor and TruePic VI image processing engine.
You'll be astonished by the images it will capture for you. 5.
5 fps high-speed sequential shooting The E-PL3 also boasts high-performance sequential shooting capability. It incorporates a newly developed compact high-speed shutter mechanism*1 specially designed to deliver high performance in a compact body.

(less)Olympus E-PM1 Camera with 14-42mm & 40-150mm Lens
With Live Guide, six Art Filters, and six body color variations, the E-PM1 is the product of the pursuit of simplicity and stylishness. PEN QUALITY Ultrafast AF based on the latest technology Life is full of photo opportunities.
If you carry a camera with you at all times, you'll have a chance to capture each and every one of them. To achieve ultrafast AF, the E-PM1 incorporates the same Fast AF System, new 12.
3-megapixel High Speed Live MOS Sensor and TruePic VI image processing engine as the E-P3. Now you will be able to preserve those special moments that capture your imagination in a way you'll never forget.
5.5 fps high-speed sequential shooting The E-PM1 also boasts high-performance sequential shooting capability.
It incorporates a newly developed compact high-speed shutter mechanism*1 specially designed to deliver high performance in a compact body. This has resulted in an improved sequential shooting rate of 5.
5 frames per second*2. *1 When the power is turned ON, the shutter operation sound is generated for initialization of the shutter mechanism.
*2 When the image stabilization is OFF in the S-AF (MF) mode; 4.1 fps when the image stabilization is ON.
Versatile AF functions increase your photographic comfort zone The 35-area AF has 35 focus selection areas, compared to 11 points on previous models, enabling detailed, pinpoint AF across a wider area than before. Other functions for improving AF versatility include the “group area AF”, which selects an area composed of 3 x 3 points from the 35 points to capture a fast-moving subject accurately, as well as the “fulltime AF function”, which keeps the Live View image focused even when the release button is not pressed, enabling quick tracking of a moving subject.
New 12.3-megapixel Live MOS Sensor The E-PM1 incorporates a new 12.
3-megapixel High Speed Live MOS sensor that is a high-sensitivity, high-speed version of the traditional Live MOS sensor. The sensor is also compatible 1920 x 1080/59.
94i full HD-format movie recording. The use of the line addition method for readout of lines in movies and Live View images improves image reproduction.
Maximum sensitivity has also been boosted to as high as ISO12800, which can improve shooting under low light, indoors or using a faster shutter speed. New image processing engine supporting high image quality and fast response The E-PM1 incorporates the new TruePic VI image processing engine to improve image quality and quicken response.
In addition to using the same Fine Detail processing that provided the E-5 with such high resolution, the E-PM1 incorporates Real Color Technology to improve the reproduction and gradation expressions of specific colors, so that they appear more natural and closer to the way the actually look to the human eye. Dedicated image processing cores are used separately for the recorded image and Live View image to improve the response in sequential shooting.
Live Guide and Menu Guide for friendly guidance of SLR photography The Live Guide interface makes it possible for users who are not familiar with SLR photography to take full advantage of its advanced expressive power. It enables intuitive control of techniques possible only with SLRs, such as background defocusing.
If there is any function in the menu that you do not know, the camera provides an explanation in the Menu Guide so you won't have to keep referring to the instruction manual every time. Simple and new, Stripe Screen control system The Stripe Screen control system makes possible shooting using the minimum required number of buttons and the fewest operation steps.
When you press the MENU button, the Stripe Screen appears to help you with camera mode selection and other settings. This is a simple control system that can be mastered even by beginners.
Good-looking, sophisticated user interface The E-PM1's user interface has been completely redesigned. The font and graphics used in the menus have been enhanced to offer improved visibility and quality.
With the newly provided Menu Guide, when a menu item is selected, the camera enters the explanation display mode, popping up an explanation of each menu item whenever it is changed. This display is a big help for the user because the user can find out what each function is used for and how it is used without the instruction manual.
The Menu Guide can be switched ON/OFF with the INFO button. FL-LM1 High-Capability Removable Flash A removable flash (GN10 (ISO200)) that can be attached only when needed is provided in the product package.
Art Filters for addition of real creative expressions in pictures Olympus's highly acclaimed Art Filters make it easy for you to take the kind of cool, stylish pictures you would expect to see only in magazines or photo collections. The E-PM1 incorporates the six most popular Art Filters so you can embellish still photos and movies with exciting and dramatic effects, while checking the final result in the LCD monitor.
POP ART This filter enhances colors impressively to turn a scene in daily life into a pop, or kitschy world. It even reproduces the atmosphere of the subject brightly and joyfully to finish the picture in a pop art style.
SOFT FOCUS This filter expresses an ethereal atmosphere with a soft tone. While retaining the core details of the subject, it produces a beautiful image with fantasy-like style as if the subject is surrounded by the light of happiness.
GRAINY FILM Evoking the rawness and stark power of traditional black and white with rough grains and high contrast, this filter creates a dramatic atmosphere, enhancing the feeling of presence and emphasizing the theme of the picture. PIN HOLE This filter offers a photographic expression like that obtained from a toy camera by reducing the peripheral brightness using a tunnel effect and reproducing the image in unique color tone.
The result is a mysterious, secretive atmosphere as if you are lost in a different dimension. DIORAMA This filter turns the real world in front of the camera into a world of toys.
A rapid variation in the focus confuses the feeling of distance to create a surreal miniature world. DRAMATIC TONE This filter provides a daily landscape with a dramatic impression.
It applies local changes in contrast to the image to represent the real space in a fictitious style by creating unrealistic tones of light and darkness. Art Filter Bracketing This function generates multiple pictures with different Art Filters with a single shot, making it possible to experiment with several different photographic effects at the same time and explore new variations that you may not have though of before.
In addition to the Art Filters, this function can also be used to select multiple picture modes including Vivid, Natural, Muted and Portrait. Full HD movie To make the most of its SLR image quality when recording movies, the E-PM1 can record full HD movies in the super-high-quality AVCHD.
For easy and convenient playback and editing on a computer or web uploading, the E-PM1 can also record HD movies in the AVI Motion JPEG format. Further assurance of quality is provided by the multimotion-compatible movie IS system, which stabilizes the slow shake produced when shooting while walking.
You' ll also be able to take full advantage of the E-PM1's collection of Art Filters to express your creative vision. High-quality stereo audio can be recorded in either the Dolby Digital format (AVCHD recording) or the linear PCM format (AVI Motion JPEG recording).
Movies can be viewed on your TV and controlled by your TV's remote by connecting a commercially available HDMI mini-cable. * Image stabilization in the movie mode is electronic so slightly enlarged images are recorded.
* IS may not be effective if the camera is shaken excessively. * When an Art Filter is used, the frame rate, the recorded audio and the availability of Art Effects vary according to the movie format and the Art Filter in use.
The frame rate is 2 fps with the AVCHD format. * Only a TV compliant with the HDMI-CES standard can be used.
Some operations may be limited with certain TV. * It is recommended to use a card compatible with SD Speed Class 6 or higher for recording movies.
* Dolby and the double-D symbol are registered trademarks of Dolby Laboratories. * “AVCHD” and the “AVCHD” logo are trademarks of Panasonic Corporation and Sony Corporation.
Built-in image stabilization Though small, the image stabilization mechanism built into the camera offers remarkably high performance. And, because the IS mechanism is incorporated in the camera, it works with any lens you mount on the camera.
Operating automatically as required, this high-precision IS mechanism lets you shoot with confidence even under low light or when using a telephoto lens. Accessory Port 2 The E-PM1 may be small, but it is designed to serve as the core of a powerful photographic system.
An accessory port on the back of the camera lets you connect a variety of accessories including an electronic viewfinder, external stereo microphones and a macro arm light, as well as the OLYMPUS PENPAL PP-1 - a communication unit that makes it easy to transfer images to a smartphone. Face and Eye detection AF/Tracking AF Sophisticated and accurate, the face and eye detection AF function lets you prioritize nearer eye, left-side eye or right-side eye to capture sharp, detailed expressions in portrait shooting.
When not required, you can switch it off. For accurate autofocusing of moving subjects, the tracking AF function employs an advanced new detection algorithm that uses the chroma data and face detection data, as well as the luminance signal to improve the accuracy of tracking.
In addition, an AF illuminator is provided to support autofocusing in low light. e-Portrait The e-Portrait scene mode enhances the appearance of your subject by making the skin appear brighter and smoother.
When this mode is set before shooting, the camera automatically saves the image both with and without correction*. It is also possible to apply the same effect in the post-shooting edit mode so that you can take the best shot and make it even better.
* The corrected image is saved only in 2560 x 1920 pixels. * This function may be ineffective with certain subjects.
i-ENHANCE The iAUTO function that automatically selects the optimum mode when the camera is pointed at the subject now includes the "i-ENHANCE" picture mode, which is capable of evoking a "being-there" feeling with vivid colors. The i-ENHANCE mode is set automatically when the iAUTO function is selected, and the camera determines the optimum color and contrast conditions so that the subject is imaged prominently.

The revolutionary, new mirrorless camera, the OM-D, has an exceptionally light and compact body. Its Electric View Finder enables photographers to check the Art Filter effect, color temperature, and exposure levels in real-time.
When shooting, you can instantly "create" a truly unique world and preserve it in exceptional quality. The "world" will be transformed from something you see to something you "take part" in.
The OM-D is a groundbreaking, new digital interchangeable lens camera perfect for people who want to "take part," "create," and "share." ELECTRONIC VIEWFINDER A Viewfinder with Creative Control that Immerses You in Your Photos Enter the world of the viewfinder for complete control of your photos and total immersion in the shots you take.
With high definition of 1.44 million pixels, an approx.
100% field of view, and a maximum magnification of 1.15x, the viewfinder shows the scenes you want to capture exactly the way they appear.
All functions needed to create a photo can be checked and set through the viewfinder, including highlight & shadow control, for adjusting gradation of brighter and darker areas to your exact taste, white balance control, enabling creative control over a scene, as well as aspect ratio change. The OM-D offers a built-in magnified frame AF function enabling accurate focusing with the subject magnified.
Thanks to the eye sensor, the system switches the view from the back monitor to the viewfinder automatically when you look into it. The viewfinder provides a natural image for full creative control and excellent visibility in bright sunlight in comparison to the back monitor.
It also offers an interface displaying key information in an easily understandable way as well as the limitless ease of use that can only be offered by an electronic viewfinder. Frame your shot, make settings quickly with the dials and view the world through the viewfinder in your quest for the perfect photo.
To look into this viewfinder is to look into the world of the photograph. This is the concept behind the new OM-D viewfinder.
Highlight & shadow control Control highlights and shadows while looking into the viewfinder. Because settings can be applied while viewing the effect in real-time, bright and dark details can bequickly and easily adjusted.
Control of highlights and shadows can each be set in 7 steps. White balance control White balance control is an essential feature for creating the photos you desire.
You can produce the exact effects you want by setting the white balance according to your own tastes without taking your eye away from the viewfinder. Magnification control The OM-D can display magnified subjects so that you can more accurately control the focus.
The available zoom magnifications are 5x, 7x, 10x, and 14x. This feature can be assigned to the Fn2 button to let you switch instantaneously between magnified and normal images, meaning that you can focus precisely on the subject as well as check the overall photo composition without taking your eye away from the camera.
Aspect Ratio Change While looking into the viewfinder, the user can change the photo aspect ratio to match the desired image. Five aspect ratio options are available: a basic 4:3 aspect, a movie-like 16:9 aspect, a square 1:1 aspect, the same 3:2 aspect as used by 35 mm film cameras, and a 3:4 aspect that allows a vertical shot without having to turn the camera.
HIGH QUALITY IMAGE The Most Visually Stunning Supported by Three Technologies Introducing a new standard that will redefine the concept of high image quality for digital interchangeable lens cameras. Three elements provide this image quality: the lens, the image sensor and the image processor.

Designed specially for digital cameras, these lenses enable light to travel in a near-straight path to the image sensor to optimize performance and ensure high-quality photos. FAST AF Even Faster.
Even More Accurate. Capture the Instant with the World's Fastest* AF.
The shutter button responds so fast it's as if it already knows the instant you want to shoot. The FAST AF system represents the pinnacle of Olympus AF technologies.
Further improvements in speed have achieved the world's fastest AF* that outperforms even phase difference AF systems. The performance of the tracking AF has also been greatly improved.
With 3D tracking AF technology that follows a moving subject by detecting face, color and pattern, and by predicting its movement, the AF system can continue to focus on a subject that is moving across a wide area until it leaves the frame. This means that whether the subject is a person, animal, vehicle, or any other fast-moving object, you will never lose the instant.
The new high-sensitivity image sensor delivers outstanding AF performance even in dark situations, and combined with the 35-point area AF that covers the entire screen, focusing is accurate in all situations. Capturing the moment is the true essence of photography and the OM-D's AF has been finely tuned for faster and more accurate focus.
This advancement will provide you with more opportunities to take the photos that you want. 3D tracking AF The OM-D utilizes a feature that can not only predict the movement of a subject when it is moving across the frame but also when it is moving forward and backward within the frame.
The 3D tracking AF system then keeps the lens focused accurately on the subject even if it moves closer to or away from the camera. In the instant when focus is set, the face, color and pattern of the subject are detected.
Once the autofocus locks onto the subject, it will continue to track the subject automatically until it leaves the frame. 35-point area AF 35 AF areas can be selected.
Compared with phase difference autofocus, this is compatible with a broader range and enables more accurate pinpoint focusing. It is also possible to select an area consisting of a 3x3 group from the 35 areas.
AF at low light The high sensitivity of the OM-D's sensor allows stable AF performance even in dark conditions. In combination with a high speed lens, it is possible to achieve further improvements to the AF under low intensity light.
Thanks to the brightness of the electronic viewfinder, you can also focus on your subject through the viewfinder even in dark situations. 5-AXIS IS The World's First* 5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilization While most previous IS systems compensate for camera shake by addressing two kinds of movement along only 2 axes, the image stabilization system on the OM-D is the world's first*1 to compensate for 5 different types of camera shake.
In addition to compensation for ordinary camera shake in 2 directions (pitch and yaw), it also provides compensation for camera shake in rolling and camera shake due to the up-down shift and left-right shift that is often caused during macro shooting. The sensor in the top of the camera instantly detects camera shake, and the newly developed 5-axis image stabilization unit provides up to 5 steps*2 of compensation.
Additionally, the new control algorithm works to compensate for camera shake at low frequency, which is often caused when the camera is held for longer periods of time. It also stabilizes movies, even when shooting while walking.
Because the IS system is built into the body, it is effective regardless of which lens is used. The OM-D's IS system helps you to focus on a subject, and because it is activated at the moment when the shutter button is half-way pressed*3, you can determine the photo composition while viewing a stabilized image.
Get exactly the photo you wanted, even when shooting impulsively to capture an impromptu moment. The OM-D's IS system lets you concentrate fully on framing and capturing your shot.
New 5-axis IS unit The new IS unit compensates for camera shake in 5 axis directions: (1) up-down (pitch), (2) left-right (yaw), (3) left-right horizontal shift, (4) up-down vertical shift, and (5) rolling camera shake. Compensation is provided for camera shake which could not be compensated with conventional 2-axis IS systems, including horizontal and vertical shift and rolling camera shake which is particularly noticeable in movies.
Various Functions DUST & SPLASH PROOF Dependable OM-D Performance in Any Environment or Weather The scenes which capture a photographer's imagination are often in nature. The OM-D's dust and splash proof construction supports nature photography as well as shooting in severe environments.
The Olympus dust & splash proof construction has earned the complete trust of many photographers. Thanks to extensive use of ring-shaped seals throughout the body, the OM-D offers the same dust & splash proof durability as the E-5 within a compact and light-weight body.

With variations of the Cross Process and Dramatic Tone Art Filters and combinations of Art Effects, the OM-D offers a total of 78 effects.
These filters can be applied to not only still photos but also movies, and because you can see the results through the viewfinder as you shoot, you can use these filters creatively to add a broad range of expressions to your photos. 11 types of Art Filters 5 types of Art Effects The art effects add impressive creative looks to the Art Filters.
The OM-D has 5 types of effects: Soft focus, Pin Hole, Art Frame, White Edges, and Starlight. Using these effects in combination with the Art Filters provides you with further inspiration to create outstanding images.
Full High Definition Movies The OM-D supports full high-definition (1920 x 1080 pixels) for more beautiful movies. The superior definition performance of the OM-D produces a large improvement in movie quality.
The built-in image stabilization system is able to compensate for camera shake at low frequency as well as rolling camera shake. Because the stabilization system compensates for these types of camera shake which often occur when the camera is gently moved, the OM-D offers powerful support for shooting movies while walking.
A range of lenses can be used to make use of the distinctive expressive power of an interchangeable lens camera. The Art Filters and newly developed movie effects can also be used to incorporate a variety of expressive effects into movies that make them more fun.
Additionally, high-quality stereo audio can be recorded in linear PCM format. Art Filter Movies Using the Art Filters allows you to create dramatic and distinctive movies.
The filter effects can be checked on in the viewfinder and on the back monitor, making it possible to create a diverse range of expressions. Rather than merely taking movie footage, you can create movies that are bursting with style and expression.
This is what makes the OM-D's movie functions so much fun to use. * The frame rate, the recorded audio and the availability of Art Effects vary according to the movie format and the Art Filter in use.
One Shot Echo / Multi-Echo The One shot echo and Multi-echo functions have been added to the effects that can be applied to your movies, allowing you to create lighthearted videos that have more fun in them. These two new functions generate an after-image effect that follows the movement of the subject.
With one shot echo, the after-image is added to single frame at a fixed interval, while with multi-echo, multiple frames remain behind as the after image. You can apply these effects to easily create after-images in full high definition movies, an impressive effect which previously could only be done by using video editing software.
Built-in Stereo Microphone The high-performance built-in stereo microphone enables you to shoot movies with high-definition sound. By selecting the "Wind noise reduction" function from the movie menu, you can reduce the noise caused by the wind when shooting.
This makes it possible to shoot movies with clear audio. As the OM-D is also equipped with a "Recording volume" option, the sensitivity of the microphone can be set according to the distance from the subject.
i-Enhance Movies The i-Enhance picture mode adds a sense of vivid realism to your photographs, and this feature can now be used for movies, too. By simply setting the shooting mode to "iAuto" or selecting "i-Enhance" as the picture mode, the camera will record the movie with the optimal colors and contrast for the subject, producing clear, vivid image quality that makes for exciting movies.
Live Bulb / Live Time For bulb photography where the shutter is left open for continuous exposure over a long period of time, this function updates the image shown on the monitor at each set interval of time. Two settings are available: Live Bulb which keeps the shutter open while the release button is held down, and Live Time which opens the shutter the first time the release button is pressed and closes the shutter the second time the button is pressed.
This function is effective at times such as when shooting fireworks, the night sky, or nighttime cityscapes. Bracket Shooting The Art Filter bracket allows the effects from multiple Art Filters to be used in a single image.
By selecting multiple Art Filters when shooting, the effects of each of the filters can be applied to the image. You may find that applying multiple effects can produce unexpected but interesting results.
This function also allows AE, ISO, white balance and flash bracket shooting. Level Gauge The bi-directional electronic level gauge supports both camera shift and camera tilt, and can be displayed on either the viewfinder or back monitor using the Live View.
By taking advantage of this feature, you can shoot with stable framing when photographing a subject dead straight or if when shooting the horizon. Aperture and shutter speed as well as other key information can also be displayed at the same time that the level gauge is used.
Before Adjustment AF with Eye Detection The Eye Detection AF automatically focuses on the eyes of a human subject, and is a powerful tool for portrait photography. With improvements in accuracy, it is possible to detect the eyes easily even when taking a chest-up portrait.
This function automatically focuses on the closest eye, or you can also select Left eye priority or Right eye priority to easily focus the camera on the eye of the subject you want to focus on. Digital Tele-converter When assigned to the Fn1 button, the digital tele-converter function produces a telephoto effect which magnifies the center part of the image by two times.
The excellent pixel interpolation performance of the TruePic VI image processor makes it possible to zoom while maintaining high image quality. Using this function allows a 75 - 300 mm super-telephoto lens to provide a zooming range equivalent to 1200 mm on 35 mm camera lenses, making it easy to achieve high magnification.
Degital Teleconverter Shooting The OM-D includes the i-Enhance picture mode which vividly reproduces the sense of presence when the image is taken. This function is selected automatically when "iAuto" is selected.
It can also be selected from other picture modes. The camera selects the optimal color and contrast in order to provide clear, vivid, and exciting image quality that highlights the subject.
Multiple Exposure Multiple exposure shooting allows two images to be combined while checking the results on the Live View. This function can be used to easily create surreal images.
The first image is displayed semi-translucent as the overlaying image is shot, so you can effortlessly determine the composition. Because two images can be superimposed at one time, by repeating this process it is possible to superimpose any number of images.
3D Photography Impressive 3D images can be taken by simply following the guide instructions. Select "3D" for the scene mode, and take two images following the guide displayed on the back monitor using the Live View.
The camera will then automatically create and save a 3D file (MPO format). The created image can be shown on a TV or PC that has a 3D display function.
The camera also supports a 3D lens. * 3D pictures can be viewed on a 3D-compatible PC or TV by playing them back on the camera via an HDMI connection or USB connection, or by playing them back from an SD card.
Shooting Modes In addition to the "P/A/S/M modes", the shooting modes also include iAuto, in which the camera automatically selects one out of a total of 42 types of settings, and SCN, which consists of 23 different scene modes. With the e-Portrait scene mode, the image is processed to produce a bright, smooth effect for the subject's skin, resulting in a beautiful portrait photograph.
* The processed image is saved only as a 2560 x 1920 pixel image. * This function may be ineffective with certain subjects.

From normal shooting in the rain to more extreme environments, the OM-D lets you focus on shooting by protecting the camera against sand, dust, rain and splashes. As well as the camera body, the external flash, FL-LM2 (included), electronic zoom lens, M.
ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm f3.5-6.
